I’m glad to tell you that last week’s holiday club went very well. Around 23 kids came each day, which was a substantial increase from February’s holiday club. I was in charge of each day’s lesson, which all went well amidst a few obstacles. On thursday I planned to project clips from the film Prince of Egypt onto a projection screen. However, somewhere between youtube-quality clips and poor lighting, no one was able to see the film on the screen. So, I ended up holding a computer on my lap so everyone could see. Also, for whatever reason, the video couldn’t go to full screen, so groups of about eight had to sit close enough to see a film in a three-inch by three-inch screen. But, in the end, it all worked out fine. This sunday the vicar will be showing pictures from the holiday club in the service, in hopes of attracting parents and other siblings of those who attended the club to the church. Please pray that new people will come.

Throughout this semester we’ve been studying the book of Acts. We’ve also been reading most of Paul’s letters, which amplifies the book of Acts. Regardless,  a week or so ago I read 1 Corinthians straight through, trying not to focus on the nuances. The idea was to put myself in, say, the position of someone in the Corinthian church all those years ago hearing the letter read by someone. So, I read it all the way through in one sitting, and when I finished, I couldn’t help but think that in all the issues Paul discusses, each has a similar solution. The solution is if something is inhibiting your thoughts from focusing on Christ, then stop doing or thinking whatever it is that you’re doing or thinking, so that you can focus on Christ. If an act or argument hinders your thoughts, then stop the act and end the argument so you can focus on Christ. That’s kept me thinking, to say the least.

I’m just about finished with my “theology paper,” which is the project for this semester. We were asked to write about eight different subjects (e.g. baptism, the church) assigned to us. I’ve learned a bit about writing with Bible verses, and how to make my sentences flow together with the verses, in a manner of speaking. I also have a more profound respect for the theologians who had a Bible and perhaps a few other books, and were able to write a thousand or so pages on doctrine.

This Friday I’m off to York to see two new bishop’s installed. It’s a six pound round trip bus ticket, so I couldn’t pass it up. Saturday I’m going with a few lads from one group I work with to a football tournament, and then sunday after church I’ve organized a trip to take the sunday school group to Old Trafford—Manchester United’s stadium. So, there are a few new and different opportunities in the near future.
