This past week saw many of the usual ministries. But there was a special event which was gladly received. It was at the Manchester Cathedral on Tuesday evening. Prior to that day, I wasnt really sure what it was supposed to be, so it was a wonderful surprise. The evening was centered around a new initiative the churches in England (including, but not limited to, the Church of England) are proposing in order to reach the nation. It will start on January 1st and finish on December 31st of 2008. From what I understand, it is like grouping all the resources and assembling all the soldiers of “God’s army” for one year of heightened evangelism. This past Tuesday was a rally for this, to get everyone in the mission mindframe. It was such an exciting and encouraging event, as I saw a few hundred people who are passionate about their Savior, and deeply committed to doing more this coming year to proclaim his name. The night started with the hymn Crown Him with Many Crowns. I heard the old organ of the Cathedral play that euphonic tune, and saw everyone around passionately singing the accompanying words. I dont know how often that organ is played, but I would imagine that crowds like the one on Tuesday dont come around that often, anymore. Back in the day I can just imagine that full Cathedral with people singing praises accompanied by that organ. Hopefully some day it will be as it once was.
